What is CPM and how to calculate it?
CPM (Cost Per Mille) is one of the most important metrics in influencer marketing and online advertising. It represents the cost to reach 1,000 views. The formula is straightforward:
For example, if you pay an influencer $500 for a post that gets 100,000 views, your CPM is (500 / 100,000) × 1000 = $5. That's an excellent price — well below the market average on most platforms.
CPM vs CPV vs CPE — differences
CPV (Cost Per View) is the cost of a single view — simply CPM / 1000. CPE (Cost Per Engagement) is the cost per interaction (like, comment). Our calculator computes all three metrics simultaneously, assuming an average engagement rate of 4%.
Average CPM rates in 2026
CPM rates vary significantly by platform and category. YouTube campaigns are the most expensive ($20-100 CPM) due to longer formats and engaged audiences. Instagram is mid-range ($12-65), while TikTok offers the lowest rates ($4-45) but the greatest organic reach.
Categories like finance and business have the highest CPMs (up to $100 on YouTube), while entertainment, music and kids content is the cheapest. Full benchmarks are available in the table below.
