How it works?
What is Engagement Rate and why does it matter?
Engagement rate (ER) is one of the most important metrics in influencer marketing. It measures the ratio of interactions (likes, comments) to views or followers. A high ER means the influencer's community is active and engaged, which translates to better campaign results.
Follower count alone doesn't tell the full story — an influencer with 50,000 followers and 8% ER can deliver better results than a creator with 500,000 followers and 0.5% ER. Our calculator helps you verify this.
How do we calculate Engagement Rate?
The formula depends on the platform. On YouTube and TikTok, we calculate ER based on views: (likes + comments) / views × 100%. On Instagram — based on followers or views (when available).
ER benchmarks by platform
Each platform has different norms. TikTok averages 5-10% ER (highest of the three), Instagram 3-6%, and YouTube 2-5%. Smaller accounts (nano and micro influencers) typically have higher ER than large celebrity accounts.
Our calculator accounts for these differences — it compares the influencer's result against the appropriate benchmark for their platform, category (beauty, gaming, tech, sport and 13 more) and account size.
